Things That Mention Midnight #4: Murder At Midnight Radio Show
“Midnight, the witching hour, when the night is darkest, our fears the strongest, and our strength at its lowest ebb.
Midnight, when the graves gape open, and death strikes!
How? You’ll learn the answer in just a minute in… Trigger Man!” — Introduction from the episode, ‘Trigger Man’
Midnight is obviously the time when strange and interesting things are bound to happen, not the least of which is… Murder!
At least, that was the case in the 1940s, when this very charming collection of episodes of the suspense radio show, “Murder At Midnight“, were broadcast.
With episode titles like, “The Ace Of Death”, “Island Of The Dead”, “Death Worshipper”, “Death’s Goblet”, and “The Dead Come Back”, it really isn’t likely that these are stories that feature happy endings.
I’ve been listening to some of the episodes, and yes they’re more than a bit corny these days, but I am definitely looking forward to the next time we have a stormy night, so I can put some of these on and curl up with a mystery book and then freak out over a noise from outside and then spend the rest of the night hiding in a closet. Like real men do.
